Cornerstone Roots
Cornerstone Roots is an original reggae roots band that combine a mixture of soul, deep roots skank, heavy bass riffs and conscious lyrics to spread their messages. Naomi and Brian also form the Motherland Collective, which organises the Soundsplash Eco Reggae Festival in Whaingaroa each year.
Antonio Te Maioha
Starring on Shortland Street, Korero Mai and Mataku, Antonio is a performance artist who is passionate about our taiao. At Youth Jam Antonio performed a selection of Spoken Word / Rap / Theatre highlighting Climate Change, our environment and how our personal actions affect it.
Soul Speed
Hailing from Whaingaroa Soul Speed is an environmental dance theatre troupe that has performed at places like WOMAD, Jambalaya, Soundsplash and Parihaka carrying kaupapa including ‘Popoto Whakamiharo’ (Maui’s Dolphin), ‘Te Karanga Tohora’ (Song of the Whale), ‘Te Toroa’ (Flight of the Albatross). Soul Speed performed their new work ‘Matariki’ for Youth Jam highlighting the connection that people have with the world around us.
