The Lowdown...

The inaugural Enviroschools Youth Jam in Rotorua was a massive success, bringing together around 250 people from all around Aotearoa and
Te Waipounamu to Change the Climate on Climate Change!

Taking place from the 16th to the 18th of September this year, enviroschools students joined together with others from other schools and regions in atua groups and raised up the level of energy and enthusiasm for the kaupapa while gaining heaps of knowledge and experience from their peers and supporters!

The Enviroschools Youth Jam was a 'Youth Teaching Youth' event where workshops were run by students for students. Workshop topics included energy, waste, rivers, lakes, design, dawn choruses, counting carbons, media releases, radio stations and even Muttonbirds! All with links back to the main kaupapa of Climate change.

As well as the workshops the was a Panel Discussion Session, live performances by Roots Reggae band Cornerstone Roots, Dance theatre troupe Soul Speed and Performanc Artist Antonio Te Maioha.

On Action Day everybody walked down to Otauira / Hannah's Bay where we took action in the local environment, joining with people from various parts of the Rotorua Community to plant around 450 native and fruit trees.

The Youth Jam raised awareness within the students and teachers that there were 'other people as interested as WE are in the Environment!' and many students commented on being inspired by the knowledge and experience of others and seeing their peers presenting.

Forward Movement to Youth Jam 08!
