Enviroschools Youth Jam a Massive Success!!

26th September 2007

The inaugural Enviroschools Youth Jam in Rotorua was a huge success, bringing together around 250 people from all around Aotearoa and Te Waipounamu to Change the Climate on Climate Change!

Students raised up the levels of energy and enthusiasm, gaining knowledge and experience!
Running workhops for other students on different topics they were focusing on in their schools.
Asking questions of our Expert Panel (Al Morrison – Department of Conservation, Justin Ford-Robertson – Climate and Energy Consultant, Wiremu Tawhai - Te Wananga o Awanuiarangi, Nandor Tanczos – Green Party, Heidi Mardon – Enviroschools, and Brittany Packer – a greenteen student from Nelson).
They experienced a number of different ways of sharing their message and information about their different areas of focus including Dance by Soul Speed, Spoken Word/Rap/Theatre by Antonio Te Maioha, Music by Cornerstone Roots, Video and also video messages from people including Prime Minister Rt Hon Helen Clark, National Party leader John Key, All Black Anton Oliver, and a special voice message from Smeagol/Gollum.

Everybody took action in the local environment, joining with people from various parts of the Rotorua Community to plant at Otauira / Hannahs Bay reserve.

The Youth Jam raised awareness within the students and teachers that there were “other people as interested as WE are in the Environment!” and many students commented on being inspired by the knowledge and experience of others and seeing their peers presenting.

Looking forward to next year!!
