Enviroschools National Hui a big success

9th October 2006

Our National Hui was held from 25-27 September at St Peters School in Cambridge. 108 people attended the Hui, representing teachers of enviroschools, Enviroschools facilitators and regional coordinators, EfS Advisors and partner organisations.
The programme was a successful mix of formal and informal sessions that enabled participants to gain knowledge and skills in some specific areas of EE (such as pedagogy, evaluation, facilitation) and also share their own knowledge and practical experiences for the benefit of the group.
At the conclusion of the 3 days participants were asked to state how the Hui had supported their teaching and learning practice. A large range of outcomes were reported with many participants saying that that had gained:
• increased confidence and commitment to support student directed learning projects
• renewed / strengthened relationships with local EE educators
• contact with a wide support network – stronger links between facilitators / teachers / students
• inspiration and motivation from meeting and learning from others
• more awareness of change in social behaviour of communities
• clear vision of school direction

The Enviroschools Foundation would like to extend thanks to Scottwood Trust, Lion Foundation and Ministry of Education - Quality Teaching Partnership Fund for their generous support of our National Hui.
Thanks also to everyone involved in the planning and running of the event as well as to all the participants for taking part and making it the successful event that it was.
