International Day of Action on Climate Change

6th October 2006

is 4 November...what will you be doing?
Saturday November the 4th is International Day of Action on Climate Change. It is a day to raise awareness of climate change, and call on world leaders to take urgent action. It coincides with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conference in Nairobi. David Parker, the NZ Minister responsible for Climate Change, will be attending this conference.

In New Zealand the day is being coordinated by the Climate Defence Network. For more information check out www.climatedefence.org.nz

Due to New Zealand's location on the globe, we are the first country in the world to mark this day. The CDN are encouraging people to take action locally or across their national networks to increase public recognition and political action on the issue. If you are planning an event email CDN at day of-action@climatedefence.org.nz and they will add your event to their website.

In Wellington, the Climate Defence Network (CDN) is planning a Climate Change Festival during the day and night at the Paramount Theatre. While the event is primarily an information day, they will also be raising funds for climate change initiatives. All money collected on the day will go towards a project organised by the Sustainability Trust, to fit insulation into low income housing in Wellington.
