Engaging in play, creativity, learning and fun in outdoor classroom
A School Fun Run sponsored prize in 2021 has allowed Ngāti Toa School to develop their school outdoor environment in ways that respond to their vision and values. The project has been led by ākonga and supported by whānau and kaiako and has led to new ideas to explore for the future. Pou mark Path for a Sustainable Community
After running an unofficial walking school bus for the past five years, Berhampore School jumped at the chance to join the Active Travel Action pilot project. Working collaboratively with Enviroschools Te Upoko o Te Ika a Māui, Wellington City Council and mana whenua, they planned the route, installed signage and installed posts (pou) designed by the tamariki to guide their journey.
Experiencing Atua in our Living Landscape at Worser Bay School
A whole school learning inquiry exploring Atua Māori at Worser Bay School has culminated in a celebratory event with a Wearable Art parade, classroom displays and ākonga shared their ideas and aspirations for the future. To immerse everyone in this learning, teachers used activities from the Enviroschools resources that help observe, map and explore the Atua qualities present.
Budding beekeepers taste sweet success
A student-led initiative to bring bees to the Gladstone School yard has been enabled through a combination of student inquiry, amazing community support and the Earthwise Action Fund. Budding beekeepers are learning how to use the equipment, care for the bees and now the honey production process.
