New Pathways for Early Childhood

We are pleased to be able to let you know that nationally Enviroschools has a programme under development specifically for Early Childhood centres.

The new Early Childhood programme involves working with clusters of Early Childhood Centres rather than engaging with each one individually as we have traditionally done with schools. The cluster approach has been trialled in other parts of the country and uses a number of learnings from the way Janice Tossman worked with Early Childhood Centres in this region during 2007/8.

How the Programme is shaping up in the Wellington region

During 2012 in Wellington City, Fi Gibson from Victoria University Preschool is restarting a cluster for Early Childhood Centres who have a previous history with Enviroschools.

As we secure further funding we hope to be able to operate clusters in other parts of the region.

Associations may also be able to train representatives from their centres to support other centres within their association to take on the Programme with the initial focus of the long term journey being on waste. Rimutaka Kindergarten Association and Victoria University preschools have taken this approach.

Any other Associations who would like to discuss this option should contact the Regional Coordinator.
