Rena Oil Spill, Bay of Plenty

Teaching resources

As the clean-up of the Bay of Plenty coastline continues, the Community Engagement team at the Bay of Plenty Regional Council have responded to teacher requests about the Rena spill by pulling together a range of teaching resources.

They have put together a page which features links to a range of education resources about oil spills, as well as a unit plan based on an inquiry approach that you can find at: www.boprc.govt.nz/residents/teachers/teacher-resources/

Other community information about public meetings, volunteering, training videos, news feeds etc can be found at: : www.boprc.govt.nz/sustainable-communities/rena-oil-spill-volunteer-hub/

Corporate Services Group Manager Brian Trott says "It's been really heartening to see the community response to this tragic event.  Hopefully together we can minimise damage to our beaches, coast and marine ecosystems".

Our hearts go out to communities of the Bay of Plenty at this time.
