The activities of The Enviroschools Foundation are funded through a range of sources.   In 2011 our funding mix includes,  project support from The Tindall Foundation,  a contract with the Ministry for the Environment through the Waste Minimisation Fund,  sponsorship partnerships with Mother Earth and Agrisea and support for one of our team through  The Vodafone New Zealand Foundation's  World of Difference GEM programme and self generated income through activities.

Enviroschools Regional Coordinators and the facilitators who work with schools are employed by our network of regional partners.

Accordingly, the expenses associated with regional implementation of the Enviroschools Programme are not reflected in the financial statements of the Foundation. The relative proportions of national and regional investment are indicated in the pie graph.

The Enviroschools Foundation is a professionally managed organisation with sound financial controls in place.   Our annual accounts are prepared by KPMG and audited by Owen McLeod & Co. The following graphs and explanations relate to our audited accounts for the year ended 31 December 2010.

Income:

  • Total revenue for the financial year was $1.6 million.
  • A range of contracts with Central Government agencies made up around 75% of our income.
  • The proportion of income from non-Government sources has increased from 10% in 2009 to 25%, reflecting a strategy to diversify funding sources.

Expenditure:

  • Total expenditure for the financial year was $1.6 million.
  • The proportion of funds invested in the national team – both people and operations - has remained same as in the last 3 years.
  • In 2010 less was spent on resource development than 2009, with major projects completed in 2009.
  • The expenditure of professional development events was up on 2009 with the launch of Te Aho Tū Roa – Kōtuia!, a youth development project for rangatahi Māori.
